New MELROSEPLACE Restaurant and Rooftop Lounge Charms in West Hollywood

melroseplace restaurant and rooftop lounge charms in west hollywood

Photo: MELROSEPLACE – Restaurant & Rooftop Lounge

    Experience MELROSEPLACE

One of Los Angeles’ most famous streets is the iconic Melrose Place, known to most outside of the city from its namesake ‘90s TV show. Local Angelenos are fans of the block thanks to its jewelry stores, coffee shops and designer boutiques that include international names like Balmain, Marni and Oscar de la Renta. There will soon be a new dining addition to the luxurious strip with the opening of MELROSEPLACE Restaurant and Rooftop.

    The Location

This new, 8,000 square foot addition to West Hollywood is located just off of La Cienega Boulevard in an area already bustling due to the variety of dining and nightlife destinations nearby. MELROSEPLACE will be taking over the former home of The Allbright, a private, women’s club that closed during the pandemic. MELROSEPLACE plans to take inspiration from the previous brand in making the new venue an all-in-one destination for leisure.

    Photo: MELROSEPLACE LA

    The Venue

The three-story building will have a different feel to each floor, offering a bevy of in-house services and experiences. The ground floor is reserved for shops and businesses, with MELROSEPLACE Nail Salon opening first to provide premium nail art services. Additional stores and casual dining options will also soon be added to the lineup of street level destinations.

The second floor will provide multiple environments for guests to dine throughout the day. A cafe will be opening as a daytime hangout for coffee and bites. The MELROSEPLACE restaurant will be the crown jewel of the building, with light and luxurious furnishings bringing in a distinctly coastal feel. Both indoor and patio seating will be available for guests to enjoy the alluring menu of California-inspired dishes. Alongside dinner will be a thoughtful cocktail program by the talents of Umbrella Hospitality Group, with creative beverages to complement the food menu or to enjoy at the venue’s bar seating.

Plans for a lively rooftop lounge are in the works for the third level, joining the ranks of nearby rooftop destinations like Harriet’s Rooftop, Skybar and E.P. & L.P. The rooftop bar is expecting to make its debut just in time for guests to take in the sunshine during Summer 2022.

    Sunset Collective

The minds behind MELROSEPLACE are Sunset Collective, a group with an impressive combined history in entrepreneurship, Los Angeles nightlife and hospitality. Costas Charalambous, Shyon Keoppel, and Stafford Schlitt came together to breathe new life into Los Angeles’ post-quarantine hospitality landscape. Charalambous is known in the industry as one of the founding members of SBE, a Los Angeles hospitality company where he also served as president. MELROSEPLACE will join Sunset Collective’s growing roster of venues which also includes the ultra-exclusive lounge Offsunset. While the latter destination prides itself in maintaining a limited guest list, MELROSEPLACE will allow for a more inclusive style, hoping to draw in guests from all over Los Angeles to experience the space.

      Nobu Malibu

The iconic Malibu sushi restaurant still stands as the top dog in luxury beachside dining, and as the perfect setting for a truly special date night. The sweeping views of the Pacific ocean are jaw-dropping, but the food is nothing to scoff at either. The Yellowtail Sashimi and Black Cod with Miso are always popular, and the lobster shiitake salad can’t be missed. Nobu is a restaurant that lives up to the hype as some of the best seafood in Los Angeles.

      Catch LA

Perched above the striking streets of Hollywood, Catch LA is the West Coast outpost of the acclaimed NYC restaurant, and a one-stop shop for delicious seafood and cocktails. The rooftop patio is a refreshing and elegant space to sample Catch’s delightful menu, with favorites like the truffle sashimi, and a decadent lobster mac & cheese. Catch has recently opened a sister location just a few blocks away, Catch Steak LA, which has quickly become one of the hottest steakhouses in LA.

      Blue Plate Oysterette

This sunny Santa Monica staple is not only a lovely option for beachside dining, but has some of the freshest oysters and tastiest specialty cocktails on the westside. The picturesque oyster bar is open for brunch, but their small plates and drinks actually make the perfect appetizer for The Bungalow Night Market, a weekly congregation of LA’s best food trucks, hosted just a block down the road.

      EMC Seafood & Raw Bar

For something a little more casual and a lot more delicious, EMC Seafood & Raw Bar has been making waves in Koreatown with its welcoming atmosphere, perfect for group dinners, and large selection of traditional and fusion seafood dishes. Whether you’re grabbing a plate of Pan-seared Fish Tacos, or devouring the opulent Seafood Tower, make sure the Uni Pasta is present at your table.

      Crudo e Nudo

If you manage to get a reservation at this exclusive boutique restaurant, you’re in for some of the best seafood in Los Angeles. The pristine plates of crudo are delightfully palatable, and the vegan and vegetarian options are no slouch. For adventurous eaters, the “Neptune’s Flight” tasting menu is chef-selected, featuring off menu items that are certifiably delicious.

      Providence

Eating at providence is an event, a dinner which might take hours as guests sample the multi-course tasting menus. That said, it’s done in a way that never feels too pretentious. The cheese cart, salt-baked prawns prepared table side, and take-home brioche for the next day’s breakfast are welcome sights, served in a luxuriously tranquil setting. The food is imaginative and delicious, with an ever changing menu that makes every visit feel unique.

      Water Grill

Nestled in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, this family-owned delight has been a prime seafood destination for over 30 years. The daily catch menus are always fresh and flavorful, and the appetizers always deliver, with favorites like the Clam Chowder, and grilled Spanish Octopus. After a delicious meal in an inviting atmosphere, make sure to grab a slice of the signature key lime pie.

      Holbox

Top-shelf Mexican food meets top-shelf seafood at this casual eatery. It is a bit of a hole in the wall, but for an incredible smoked fish taco or spicy, savory ceviche, this is one joint worth seeking out. The menu is enormous, with a selection of tacos and raw fish to peruse, but the buttery-soft Baja Scallops are a cut above.

Photo: The Bungalow Santa Monica – Enjoy a Summer Sunset at The Bungalow Santa Monica Night Market

        Experience The Bungalow Night Market

The Bungalow is known to Santa Monica citizens as one of the most populated bars on the Westside. Its brand built on surf culture, Baja California and a quality sunset over the Pacific leads locals and visitors alike to keep coming back to the inviting venue attached to the Fairmont Hotel. With summer just around the corner, The Bungalow has a new draw with the launch of their Night Market—a weekly event featuring a selection of LA’s best food trucks. Learn more about The Bungalow Night Market and their plans for a bustling, beachside summer event.

        Night Market 2023 is Back!

For those looking to get their weekend started early, the Night Market will run every Thursday night, from June 1st through August 31st. The free KCRW-sponsored event will stake its claim on what is currently the Bungalow’s parking lot, which normally houses valet cars along with a line of people that snakes through the space on weekends. The unstoppable Bungalow crowds are sure to appreciate a new reason to swing by and take advantage of an additional space to hang out along Ocean Boulevard.

        Street Eats & Casual Bites

Running each week from 5-11pm, the Night Market will take on a different tone than the bar to attract families and foodies of all ages, looking for street eats at a fun summer activity. Picnic tables will be set up throughout as guests try different tastes from some of the best food trucks in the city. The lineup is looking strong, with Lobsterdamus cooking up their famous lobster fries, The Arepa Stand delighting palates with Venezuelan street food, and Chimmelier slinging their popular Korean fried chicken. Other newcomers include the juicy soup dumplings of Cali Dumpling, the NY style deli sandwiches of LA staple Uncle Paulie’s, and The Ice Cream Guys holding down dessert. Returning vendors include local favorite Tacos 1986 and their Tijuana-style tacos, alongside some vegan delights from Secret Vegan Pizza.

Opening night will include a special service of Ketel One Espresso Martinis, but the excitement doesn’t stop there. Cameron Diaz’ Avaline rosé will be featured later on in the summer, and Casamigos, Don Julio, Tito’s Vodka, 818 Tequila, Maker’s Mark, Casa Del Sol, and other friends of The Bungalow are expected to return with fun bar activations and specialty cocktails.

Activities for families and children are better and more varied than ever, and kids can look forward to an expansive play area featuring face painting and more, while parents enjoy a complimentary massage provided by Exhale Massage. Night Market is also 100% Dog Friendly, and proud to partner with Wags & Walk to bring a monthly on-site meet and greet with adorable and adoptable dogs rescued from local shelters.

        Brent Bolthouse & The Bungalow

Bungalow visionary Brent Bolthouse joined designers Studio Collective to open up the now iconic indoor-outdoor space in the summer of 2012. Since then, the beloved brand has expanded to include another location in Huntington Beach with additional venues in La Jolla and Long Beach scheduled to open by the end of the year. Guests flock to both of the current locations to take in the quintessentially Californian vibe while sipping drinks in a welcoming, beachy environment.

Following the neighborhood-centric blueprint of The Bungalow and taking inspiration from farmers markets, The Night Market provides an ideal open-air setting between city and sea, where guests can relax and unwind with loved ones, celebrating the local essence of Santa Monica. “Night Market is truly an extension of The Bungalow’s community-based ethos. As The Bungalow celebrates a decade in Santa Monica, we wanted to evolve with our guests, many of whom now have families of their own. Night Market allows us to expand upon the culture we’ve created and the community that has embraced us with an impactful event for everyone, celebrating the vibrant artists and artisans who together craft the one-of-a-kind creative landscape that is Santa Monica,” comments Bolthouse.

Last year’s Night Market saw celebrity attendees like Aaron Paul and Eva Longoria guest bartending, creating specialty cocktails with their brands Dos Hombres and Casa Del Sol for food and drink lovers alike, while Brody Jenner closed out the 2022 Night Market season with a special DJ set with his tequila seltzer, Mamitas. “Night Market gets bigger and better every year with new food vendors, live music, great drinks and even some surprise celebrity guests.” says Bolthouse, “Food is the ultimate connector and I wanted to create an event where families and guests of all ages can come together and enjoy each other’s company while eating some of the best food that LA has to offer. I can’t wait to have everyone enjoy their summer evenings with us at Night Market.”

Bolthouse is also known for creating exciting events and is recently coming off the heels of the success of the annual Neon Carnival Coachella after party. The 2023 event included blowout live DJ sets, an airstream speakeasy, a themed ferris wheel and bumper car installations, and an unprecedented amount of drinks, dancing, and good times. Bolthouse has since succeeded in making Night Market a staple in the Santa Monica summer scene alongside the June Santa Monica Pride festival and the August Santa Monica Pier Twilight Concerts.

              Where to Stay

No area of Austin lacks character, which is to say you really can’t go wrong when choosing a neighborhood for your bachelorette weekend. You may want to consider renting a house if your party is large. From lakeside mansions to in-town bungalows, Austin has all kinds of homes and villas for rent that offer plenty of amenities for your group to spread out and enjoy the weekend. For smaller parties, we’d recommend a fun hotel walkable to bars, restaurants, and shopping.

South Congress Street offers hip boutiques, ample live music, and a great view of the Texas State Capitol. The South Congress Hotel is a favorite of locals and visitors alike, featuring a rooftop pool, multiple restaurants onsite, as well as a juice and coffee shop. Hotel Ella also resides nearby. An Austin icon, Hotel Ella is named for a historic Texas socialite, Ella Wooten, who lived in the mansion in the 1800s. Today, Hotel Ella is the perfect mix of old charm wraparound verandas and new comfort courtyard pools.

If downtown is more your scene, we love the Proper Hotel for a bachelorette party in Austin. It’s a bit of east coast chic with southwest inspiration, complete with signature dining experiences, multiple cocktail bars, a fifth-floor pool and just 24 guest suites for a boutique hotel experience. You also can’t miss the Fairmont Austin, stretching 37 stories into the sky. Located near popular Rainey Street, the Fairmont offers total luxury with classic Texas vibes for you and your party.

              What to Do

The weather stays rather mild all year, but summer months reach temperatures in the 90’s. To beat the heat, grab a towel and head to Lake Travis. Consider chartering a party pontoon or yacht for up to 20 people (some with top decks and water slides!) and a driver to ensure your party stays safe on the water. Your group could also pack a cooler and swim all day at one of Austin’s many natural pools, like Barton Springs or Deep Eddy. There’s also the Lonestar Riverboat for daytime or sunset cruises.

Live music is rampant in Austin. Swing by Antone’s or the legendary Continental Club to watch local performers do what they do best: entertain! Austin also offers many live music pub crawls, pedal bars and walking tours if that suits your group. We’d also recommend shopping on Music Lane for vintage stores and unique boutiques.

              Where to Eat & Drink

You can’t celebrate all weekend without the perfect food and drink lineup. To start the day, grab coffee from Revival, a locally owned shop where everything is pink. Then, don’t miss your reservation for brunch at Irene’s! Irene’s is a classic Austin spot that offers a special package for bachelorette parties, including a reserved table, popcorn, jello shots and dessert for less than $20 a person.

After you’ve enjoyed Austin for the day and are ready for something refreshing, have a drink on the roof at 77 Degrees, a three-story patio bar that also offers tapas. If you’re planning on dinner for a big group, we recommend arranging a private room ahead of time. Il Brutto is a neighborhood Italian restaurant with plenty of options for small and large groups, like a private wine bar and large backyard patio. Enjoy their house limoncello and affordable private dining options. Or, if Italian doesn’t hit the spot, head over to Comedor for upscale Mexican food, served family style.

Now that you and your party have fueled up for the night, we recommend starting the party on Rainey Street or West 6th Street. You won’t have any trouble finding lively spots for music, drinks, and dancing. You’ll probably find other bachelorette and bachelor parties, too! To find the best spot for your crew, keep in mind that Rainey Street is known for being a bit more laid back than 6th Street, but a good time can be found anywhere in Austin. Oh, and if late night dancing is your thing, consider Barbarella or The White Horse after 10PM for a true Texas dance hall experience.

Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits joins with Florida International University (FIU) to host the festival as a fundraiser for the school’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, with an aim to support the future of the hospitality industry.
