The 2020 Cannes Film Festival
The annual Cannes Film Festival , this year occurring on May 12th-23rd, has taken place each spring since 1946 as a celebration of new films created by the year’s most talented filmmakers. Cannes’ convention center Palais des Festivals et des Congrès is home to the invite-only event, considered to be one of the most significant in the world of film. Awards are given to lauded contenders in categories ranging from Best Short Film to Best Actor to the highly-coveted Golden Palm. The 2019 Golden Palm winner went to critically-acclaimed film Parasite, which went on to win Best Picture at The 92nd Academy Awards. Nominees for the 2020 Cannes Film Festival are expected to be released on April 16th, 2020.
Renowned director Spike Lee has been chosen as the President of the Jury for the 2020 festival, heading a select group of international talents to determine the winners out of dozens of accomplished artists. Past juries have included the likes of Ava DuVernay, Will Smith, Guillermo del Toro and countless other talents in the industry. This year’s jurors will be announced mid-April, and will traditionally meet at Cannes’ historic Villa Domergue to decide the winners.
