The Hideaway: Beverly Hills’ Swankiest Steakhouse

the hideaway beverly hills swankiest steakhouse

Photo: The Hideaway – Beverly Hills’ Swankiest Steakhouse

        Experience The Hideaway Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills has a brand new Steakhouse & Mexican restaurant, a delightful nod to 1970’s Baja California that is quickly gaining steam. The brainchild of celebrity party producers Jeffrey Best and Ken Jones, as well as the nightlife veterans behind the ever-popular Warwick, The Hideaway has gained a reputation for serving fresh seafood, flame-grilled meats, and good times. It’s seriously a standout restaurant, an instant classic in a city known for an abundance of incredible eateries. Check out The Hideaway, and explore everything the vibrant spot has to offer.

        The Venue

The restaurant is stylish even by LA’s standards. Outside, the courtyard pays homage to old-school Baja restaurants, with faded stucco and terracotta accents. Warm orange light emanates from the lanterns on every surface, providing a romantic atmosphere for the entirety of the 100-seat custom-made Talavera tile patio. The cream wrought-iron tables are as quaint as they are comfortable, circled around the grand outdoor attraction: The fireplace. The warm stone, wood, and flames add a touch of elegance to an already cozy dining space.

The interior focuses on the glamor of old Hollywood. The intimate dining nooks are outfitted with leather dining booths, and adorned with candles and vintage movie posters. Seats by the bar are bright and exciting, while the booths are as intimate as they come. The Hideaway’s iconic gimmick is present at every seat, tableside buttons read “push for tequila”, which deliver diners’ choice spirit at a moment’s notice. (Choice here is important, as the bar’s selection is ludicrous in scope).

        The Menu

Chef Alex Moreno (from Habana in Irvine) teams up with chef Viet Pham (from Studio City’s Firefly) to bring guests a menu with fresh takes on old classics, fit for an uber-trendy Mexican steakhouse. Start your meal with a chic chop salad, with avocado, pomegranate, and a delicious house vinaigrette. For your main course, it’s a tough choice between the pescado zarandeado, a grilled slab of branzino with salsa verde, salsa roja and charred lemon, and of course, a tableside steak. The exceptional tomahawk is always a crowd-pleaser, served with roasted cipollini onions and chimichurri sauce. For something even softer and juicer, be sure the try the New York Wagyu. There’s a dozen sides, from delicious esquites to a zesty mango slaw. For dessert, it’s a three-way tie between the flan, churros, and a decadent chocolate cake.

        The Bar

The Hideaway’s kitchen closes at midnight, but from Wednesdays-Sundays, the bar stays open till 2. Julian Cox is the mixology mastermind behind The hideaway’s signature cocktails like the smoky mezcal-based Juquila, flavored with rhubarb, strawberry and lime, or the addictive Tommy Margarita, a mix of blanco and reposado with agave syrup and a lime half. If cocktails aren’t your thing, the bar offers an extensive selection of Mexican beers, from classics like Corona and Modelo, to hidden gems like La Lupulosa IPA. Whatever your fancy, the skilled bartenders under the idyllic bar lighting always deliver on delicious (and strong) beverages for every occasion.

Orange County is often forgotten in conversations about dining, especially when compared to the much larger Los Angeles County. The truth is there’s a vibrant and diverse culinary scene, with flavors informed by the 3 million people who live there. World-renowned chefs bring old favorites and new ideas in a way that is uniquely Southern Californian. For those looking for the best of the best in this exciting scene, look no further than the top fine dining restaurants in Orange County.

              Bourbon Steak Orange County

The acclaimed steakhouse from chef Michael Mina is not only one of the best steakhouses in southern California, but some of the best fine dining in Orange County. The steaks are thick, flavorful, and marbled to perfection, while the host of side dishes and craft cocktails round out what is already a delightfully decadent meal.

              OmG Omakase by Gino

The best sushi in OC is sealed behind Orange County’s toughest reservation. Those lucky enough to be seated are rewarded with an evening of first-rate omakase at an intimate 10-seat sushi bar. Marvel at the craftsmanship and attention to detail while savoring clean, natural flavors unobstructed by excessive fluff. The incredible atmosphere of low-lights, soft jazz, and a face-to-face with a master chef is an experience you are unlikely to find outside of Japan.

The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this Newport beach restaurant is as sophisticated as they come, with a large menu of contemporary California cuisine for guests to enjoy. The slow-braised short ribs are popular, but be sure not to miss the creamy roasted butternut squash and potato dauphinoise. The wine bar is impressive as well, with over 600 foreign and domestic bottles to choose from.

              Nobu Newport Beach

The triumphant Los Angeles sushi empire has opened a location in OC, and both the scenic ocean view, and cuts of fish being served are as fresh as ever. If you haven’t heard the legend of Nobu’s signature black cod with miso, the Newport Beach location’s careful preparation guarantees quality.

              Marché Moderne

Florent and Amelia Marneu’s white tablecloth restaurant in OC’s fine dining scene, and an obvious choice for relaxed cosmopolitan dining. The dynamic duo serve French classics like steak tartare, roasted bone marrow, and duck confit. Look out for the French-Californian fusion dishes, like tuna tartare served with an avocado sorbet and a yuzu emulsion.

              Splashes

For California cuisine with a decadently Californian atmosphere, the palm shaded patios of Splashes at the luxurious Surf and Sand Resort are not to be missed. The wonderful beachside dining is reason enough to visit, but the tableside lobster bisque and five-hour short ribs are a selling point to be sure.

              Bluefin

The atmosphere of critically acclaimed chef Takashi Abe’s Bluefin is not to be understated. Stunning ocean views, an inviting interior with a deep ocean blue waterfall, dramatically lit sushi bar, dark wood paneling and contemporary Italian furnishings come together to create a space fitting for some of the best fine dining in Orange County.

              Gem Dining

Gem Dining regulars know that the place lives up to its name. Serving pan-asain flavors and distinctive cocktails based on carefully-sourced local ingredients, the already impressive menu is always progressively evolving. Whether you’re nibbling on the curious uni toast or devouring the savory mushrooms & wagyu, be sure to finish your meal with a slice of strawberry matcha tiramisu.

The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar

The Hobbit is an elegant (albeit strangely named) space for a romantic six-course dinner in an enchantingly luxurious atmosphere. The pre-fixe menu brings guests from the wine-cellar to their table, with a brief intermission to explore the patio, or even visit the kitchen and speak with the chefs. It’s a truly unique experience accompanied by truly delicious food.

              Raya

For refined Latin flavors and wonderfully fresh seafood, Raya’s serene dining space delivers in spades. The fresh beachside atmosphere is relaxed and sophisticated, which draws attention to the freshness of each dishes’ natural meats and local produce. The rock shrimp aguachile is delicious, and the maine lobster salad with sweet potato, baby spinach, lemon vinaigrette, chile ancho-port reduction and chive oil is best-in-class. For dessert, be sure to nab the cinnamon sugar churros.

              Napa Rose

Don’t let this eatery’s location fool you, despite being in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel just a few blocks from Disneyland, the gourmet food at Napa Rose is the real deal. The menu from chef Andrew Sutton changes seasonally, but the California-wine-country-inspired dishes like the Wine Country Pot Pie with Petaluma-raised chicken fricassee, and the succulent duck meatballs with chianti jus should be ordered on sight.

West Hollywood Extends Last Call Until 4am

Is West Hollywood Extending the Last Call Until 4am?

West Hollywood remains a bustling hotspot with a prominent nightlife scene. The hotels are glamorous, the clubs are extravagant, and there’s seemingly always something to do. WeHo is a neighborhood that’s always on the move, and there’s some good news for nightlife junkies. On Monday, June 27th, The West Hollywood city council voted to extend the city’s last call time to 4am, which would allow bars, clubs and restaurants to keep the party going, long into the night.

City Councilmember John Erickson says the biggest issue is making sure people can get home safely. “As a young person and young elected official, I see my friends out there way past 2 a.m., but also we have public safety concerns. We want to make sure people are getting home safely. And when people are leaving our bars and nightlife, they’re going into other cities so what do other cities think?”

There’s a compelling case to be made that not only is there a ton of money to be made for the neighborhood in alcohol sales, but bars being open late isn’t even a radical idea. Many major American cities have already pushed the window for late-night excitement, including New York, Chicago, Miami, and Las Vegas

                Pending State Approval

The pilot program would still need to be approved by the state, but West Hollywood is not alone in their fight for epic nights. Several other California cities were on the docket, including San Francisco, Oakland, Fresno, Coachella, Cathedral City, and Palm Springs. City officials could choose to extend alcohol sales in certain areas, on given days of the week, or even just for special events, like San Francisco’s Outside Lands and of course, the ever-popular Coachella.

Should West Hollywood elect to extend the last call, it is sure to be an exciting time to be in Los Angeles.
