Experience an Artsy Vacation Spot

For lovers of all things artistic, travelling can be the perfect way to spark your inspiration as you indulge in the life of another culture. While more popular vacation destinations can be fun, sometimes taking the road less traveled will lead you to enlightening adventures in artistic expression. Take a unique trip to an art-centric locale to gain some inspiration on your next getaway at these artsy vacation spots.

Sedona, Arizona

While many tourists head to the Grand Canyon, only those in the know will travel south to stop by Sedona for a retreat into a rich history of indigenous American artistry paired with a breathtaking landscape of natural red sandstone rock formations.

Berlin, Germany

This city’s mix of old world masterpieces and contemporary creations makes it the perfect place to take in the urban landscape of street art, murals, museums, and a signature alternative music scene.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

A rugged city perfect for a winter escape, Jackson Hole is worth visiting for its ski resorts, art and performance venues, and a National Museum of Wildlife Art home to pieces by Andy Warhol and Georgia O’Keeffe.

Havana, Cuba

Havana’s rich culture has been left untouched for decades and is now a hot spot for those looking to learn about Cuba’s colorful history through museums, architecture, and murals found throughout the city.

Portland, Oregon

A hub for all things ‘weird,’ Portland boasts an eccentric identity tied to its population of creatives that have cultivated a lively art, music, and theater scene in addition to a growing craft beer and coffee industry.

Tulum, Mexico

The bohemian vibe of Tulum draws in visitors who aim to experience the serene landscapes and chic social scene. The hippie-inspired boutiques, creative restaurants and nearby ancient Mayan ruins will have you living in paradise in this cultural getaway.

Sumba Island, Indonesia

While many jet setters flock to Bali for an escape, the up-and-coming sister destination of Sumba Island offers beautiful landscapes and picturesque beaches alongside villagers who create a range of crafts such as handwoven ikat clothing.

Lund, Sweden

The university town of Lund is vibrant with culture as its rustic, cobblestone streets lead to kitschy cafes, open-air museums and contemporary art galleries along with a burgeoning performing arts scene.

Marfa, Texas

This unassuming town with less than 2,000 residents may not seem like much, but with world-renowned art installations, multiple galleries and an annual Marfa Myths Music Festival, there’s plenty to see and do in this Texas desert destination.

Seville, Spain

You’ll have a rich cultural experience as you walk the streets of Seville with its classical baroque and Gothic architecture mixing with a vibrant nightlife scene that highlights the city’s history of flamenco music.

Plan Your European Getaway with Our Malta Travel Guide

Tucked between the southern coast of Italy and the northern coast of Africa is one of Europe’s hidden gems: Malta. If you’re looking for the beauty of coastal Italy without all the bustle, this is the European getaway of your dreams. From quaint fishing villages and excellent scuba diving sites to ancient temples and historic military forts, there’s always something to be discovered on this island. When you’re ready to sunbathe and explore, here are some of our favorite hotels, restaurants, and must-dos for Malta travel.

      ─ Where to Stay ─

      Casa Ellul

Casa Ellul is the premier boutique hotel in the heart of Malta’s capital, Valletta. Residing in a restored Victorian-era Palazzo, Casa Ellul exudes urban luxury. Each of the nine suites combine classic decor with modern comforts to ensure guests have a relaxing spot to rest. Take a quick stroll to the city’s main attractions, or simply enjoy the view from your balcony.

      Photo: Zocha Group

      Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa

Enjoy peaceful, countryside quiet at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa. Spacious suites offer luxurious bathtubs, sitting rooms and sweeping balcony views. Dine in a historic onsite villa, have a drink by the pool, and enjoy a massage at the Athenaeum Spa.

The Xara Palace Relais & Châteaux

The Xara Palace, a luxury boutique hotel by Relais & Châteaux, is the only hotel within the city walls of Malta’s first capital, Mdina. With three onsite restaurants plus private dining options, The Xara Palace has your comfort at top of mind. Sleeping in a palace built for 17th century nobles is just the cherry on top.

      Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz

For a true resort experience during your Malta travels, the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz is a must. Located on Gozo, a neighboring island, staying at the Kempinski is a unique opportunity to explore the lesser-known jewels of Malta. This resort is also nestled in the Dwerja Bay, offering some of the best scuba diving in the world.

Cugó Gran Macina Grand Harbour Hotel

The Cugó Gran Macina Grand Harbour Hotel puts you in the middle of Valletta’s action, history, and beauty. Guests rave about the view from this hotel’s rooftop terrace, but what’s inside is just as impressive. Live within real fortress walls that mix ancient history, luxury decor, and unobstructed views of the Grand Harbour at this five-star hotel.

      ─ Where to Dine ─

      one80 Kitchen & Lounge

With four locations around Malta and Gozo, one80 is one of the most popular restaurants among tourists and locals alike. Each one80 location offers unique and breathtaking views, and the Italian-inspired menu of shared plates, pasta, and seafood is sure to please a crowd.

      59 Republic

Even the Michelin Guide agrees: 59 Republic has earned their prestigious reputation in Malta. You’ll find a classic, elegant interior with fun, tasteful accents while you enjoy unique starters and creative seafood entrees.

      Rampila

Located in an old bastion built by the Knights of St. John, Rampila offers four unique dining areas including a private dining vault and sweeping terrace. This is more than just a restaurant, it’s an immersive experience of Maltese history (with an extensive wine list and incredible food).

      Harbour Club

Harbour Club’s menu boasts Mediterranean and French influence curated to highlight the best of Malta. This restaurant offers the best view of Grand Harbour and seasonal menus to ensure fresh, inspiring meals.

      Ta’ Frenċ

Tucked away on the island of Gozo is Ta’ Frenċ. Set in a restored 14th century farmhouse, the location alone is worth a visit. Top it off with herbs served from their garden and fish right from the Mediterranean sea, and it’s no wonder Ta’ Frenċ earned a spot on the Michelin Guide.

      ─ What to Do ─

      Explore

Malta was made for wanderers. The capital city of Valletta has more historic sites within its small square mileage than many major European cities. The original capital city, Mdina, features countless museums of Maltese art, history, and culture. Malta is also rich with military history including the Lascaris War Rooms from World War II as Fort St. Elmo dating back to the 16th century. If you’re staying on the main island, we highly recommend a quick ferry over to the neighboring islands of Gozo and Comino. These islands have lots of ancient temples and caves to explore as well.

      Art and Architecture

Malta has some of the most striking architecture in Europe. The Mosta Dome is incredibly well-preserved and still beautiful as ever. St. John’s Cathedral, however, has been called one of the most beautiful churches in Europe, which is saying something. Historically renowned Roman artist Caravaggio has two masterpieces in this cathedral, making it one of Malta’s most-visited sites. We also recommend a visit to Casa Rocca Piccola, an old home for aristocrats, and a trip to see Auberge de Castille, an old home for the Knights of St. John and where the Prime Minister resides today.

      Enjoy the Water

Malta travel isn’t complete without some time spent in the sun. On a day trip to Comino Island, you can’t miss the iconic Blue Lagoon. There’s also incredible cave and reef diving on Comino Island. Grand Harbour is known as one of the most beautiful harbors in Malta, and we highly recommend a daytime or evening cruise to see Valletta from the water. The 20-minute ferry to Gozo runs all year, and you don’t want to miss sites like the Dwerja Bay and remains of the Azure Window. Gozo also has some of the best caves that can be explored by small boat. We also recommend a day trip to Marsaxlokk, a quaint fishing village known for great open-air markets and, of course, seafood.

Experience The Monaco Grand Prix 2022

An extravagant French tradition, the Monaco Grand Prix 2022 highlights the best of the best Formula One drivers as they show off their talents in the French Riviera. Since its start in 1929, the race annually draws in thousands of visitors to Monaco to be a part of the festivities and culture that surrounds the prestigious event. From celebrities to socialites, guests gather to celebrate the start of summer and experience the excitement of motorsports by witnessing the 78 laps around the impressive Circuit de Monaco racetrack.

Photo: Zocha Group – The Monaco Grand Prix 2022: Luxurious Tradition of Celebration

            The History

Winning the Monaco Grand Prix is considered one of the highest honors in motor races alongside the Indy 500 and 24 Hours Le Mans. With the three forming the Triple Crown of Motorsport, the race continues to be one of the most popular among Formula One enthusiasts. Normally a modest city of 30,000 citizens, Monaco’s population inflates to an average of 100,000 people as spectators travel from all over the world to cheer on their favorite drivers. The over 160-mile race is driven by dozens of talented Formula One drivers who head to Monaco each May to see if they have what it takes to win the hefty prize fund.

            The VIP Guests

With high society being an integral part of the race’s audience, the rich and famous are drawn to the event every year to wine, dine and throw parties in celebration of the world-renowned event. From movie stars to politicians, the well-known attendees can be spotted living it up alongside the rest of the lively spectators. Reminiscent of a Hollywood red carpet event, guests like Hugh Grant, Ron Howard, Bella Hadid, and Kris Jenner can be seen mixing and mingling throughout the weekend. Even Royalty like England’s Prince Harry and Monaco’s own Prince Albert have graced the grounds with their presence. Whether they’re avid racing fans or just coming to socialize and celebrate, the VIP guests help make the event ticket all the more attractive.

            The Exclusive Parties

Aside from the race itself, there are plenty of ways to spend time enjoying the French Riviera during a Grand Prix stay in Monaco. The infamous yacht parties thrown throughout the weekend are invite-only and often feature live music from A-list DJs, free-flowing Champagne, and plenty of caviar for your palate. Olympian Nicholas Frankl hosts an opulent annual yacht event where even the most well-known socialites and celebrities aren’t always able to snag an invite. With celebrities Kim Kardashian and Kanye West having been turned down in the past, Frankl’s exclusive 120-max guest list is limited to a hand-picked crowd of notable attendees. Last year’s Billionaire Club Champagne party held on the rooftop of the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo was also a sought after invite. With stunning views of the Mediterranean acting as a backdrop to the poolside event, guests got to take in the seascape while popping bottles ‘til dawn.

            The Nightlife

Aside from the parties, event attendees can also take advantage of Monaco’s nightlife venues that get filled to the brim with partygoers during the popular travel weekend. Amber Lounge at the Le Meridien Plaza Beach Hotel is known to be a hot spot during the Grand Prix. A prime after-party location, the venue sees non-stop celebration by key players in fashion, entertainment and even European royals. La Rascasse has enough of a reputation that a part of the Grand Prix track has been named after the iconic bar. You’ll get a view of the race by day and an enviable indoor-outdoor place to party by night. If you’re looking for a day party getaway, The Fairmont Monte Carlo plays host to Nikki Beach–a pop-up pool club that overlooks a challenging bend in the race track. Cabanas and sunbeds fill the space while DJs keep the party going well into the night.

The Monaco Grand Prix’s rich history and continuous draw of thousands of racing fans has made it one of the most important Formula One races in the world. The week’s worth of festivities leading up to the race will have attendees enjoying their travels and indulging in luxurious dining, transportation, and revelry.

                Luxury Hotels

At each of Courchevel’s villages, named after the four altitude levels of the resort, you can enjoy the comforts of luxury living. But at the highest altitude, Courchevel 1850, the palatial hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants keep you living the high life. The five-star L’Apogée hotel boasts a chic, trendy ambiance with spacious rooms overlooking views of the valley. The Barrière Les Neiges Hotel sits on the slope of the Bellecôte mountain, allowing skiers easy access to glide down to the lifts right from the heated outdoor terrace. Stay at the stylish Le Strato to find elegant and inviting suites as well as an indoor pool and sauna for relaxing after a day on the slopes.

                Fine Dining

In between trips down the slopes, you’ll be able to feast on decadent cuisine assembled by world-renowned chefs. At Azimut, you can taste local delicacies by Chef and owner François Mouraux, who creates accessible dishes with upscale quality. One of the area’s favorites is Le 1947, a two-Michelin Star eatery with elegant gourmet dining in an intimate setting. With only 25 guests per evening, you can indulge in an exclusive dining experience inspired by locally sourced ingredients. To see and be seen, Les Verdons is the place to be with its extravagant menu and relaxed, social atmosphere.

                Nightlife

There are plenty of buzzworthy Courchevel nightlife spots to let loose during your luxury ski vacation. For those hoping to enjoy an apres ski cocktail, ski into La Cantine for dinner and drinks to let your hair down after a day on the slopes. As the night gets later, head to La Grange for a glamorous destination with an urban flair. Order bottle service to sip while well known DJs entertain the trendy crowd of partygoers. Keep your night going at Les Caves to experience an elegant yet lively evening. This popular hot spot for locals and travelers alike will have you dancing to live DJ performances until the early morning.

                Skiing

The main attraction of Courchevel is its unparalleled skiing for recreational skiers and experts alike. One of the largest lift-linked places to ski in the world, the Trois Vallées has over 170 lifts with Courchevel visitors calling the Saint-Bon valley home during their stay. Travelers get to enjoy the landscapes while coasting the local slopes, like the Courchevel 1300 ski jumping hill built for the 1992 Olympics.

With numerous reasons to explore all that Courchevel has to offer, the winter season will be packed with visitors looking to live in the lap of luxury while they embrace the fresh powder. Events like the impressive International Festival of Pyrotechnic Arts and the 3 Vallées Enduro competition will also draw in hundreds looking for entertainment during their holiday. As the weather in France keeps the snow falling, Courchevel may be the best place to embrace the cold during your next winter vacation.
