Rainy Day Activities in Los Angeles

When LA’s iconic sunny weather turns to a downpour, it may seem like staying inside all day is the only option. However there are plenty of exciting ways to spend your time in Los Angeles that don’t involve being drenched by the cloudy skies. To help you through LA’s drizzly season, here are 10 of the best activities for a rainy day in Los Angeles to do to keep your spirits up.

Visit a Museum

Los Angeles has an incredible number of world-class museums scattered throughout the city and beyond. Just about any neighborhood you visit, there’s a museum only a short drive away. Many of these museums take advantage of Los Angeles’ normally warm weather with indoor/outdoor designs, but if it’s cold and raining, there are plenty of indoor spots to check out like the Broad or MOCA.

Visit the Griffith Observatory

As one of LA’s most popular attractions for locals and tourists alike, Griffith Observatory not only has great views of the city, but is also one of the country’s leaders in public astronomy education. Join a loved one or a few friends and head up Mt. Hollywood to view Griffith’s telescopes, astrological exhibits and beautiful grounds that are open to the public every day.

Grab Some Vietnamese Pho

Pho is the ultimate rainy day food with soup, noodle and plenty of mix-ins to warm you up on a cold day. Places like Viet Noodle Bar will serve up a bowl of warmth in the city, or head to Alhambra for locations like Golden Deli that’s a staple for LA’s pho lovers. You’ll be able to grab some delicious Vietnamese stew to warm you up and make you forget about the stormy weather outside your window.

Catch a Basketball Game

After loading up on a pho dinner, head over to the Staples Center in Downtown LA to catch a Lakers or a Clippers game. You’ll enjoy an exciting and warm indoor activity without being bothered by the rain–you won’t even hear it as you’re cheering along with 20,000 other screaming fans.

Indoor Rock Climbing

If getting your heartrate up is more your speed, there are numerous indoor fitness options to give you a workout along with a fun, new experience. Rock climbing gyms like Rockreation in West LA offer huge indoor climbing walls that accommodate experts and novices alike.

Hit the Spa

Need to relax after hitting the rock wall all afternoon? There are tons of spas and full treatment centers around the city, but one of the best is offered by the Ritz-Carlton in Downtown LA. With 8,000 square feet filled with steam rooms, massage tables, relaxation pools and more, it’s a definite must for anyone who likes to be pampered.

Visit the Wilshire Grand Center

Marked as the tallest building this side of the Mississippi River, the Wilshire Grand Center in Downtown Los Angeles is a extraordinary landmark for locals and tourists alike. If you’re not squeamish with heights, you can go up to the 70th floor for free and take in the scene through the glass walls that offer a completely uninterrupted view of the city. There’s also a bar to have a drink and relax, and calm any nerves about the towering heights. Their bathrooms are also a notable sight as well, with panes of glass in the mens’ room offering a view straight down to the ground.

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

As one of the best and longest-operating aquariums in the Los Angeles region, the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium offers a fun and educational indoor day to escape the frightful weather outside. The Cabrillo Aquarium has offered marine-related education for over 70 years, so you can be sure you’ll be enlightened by plenty of under the sea knowledge.

Studio Tours and Show Tapings

If you know you’ll be in Los Angeles during the rainy season, consider planning ahead and snagging yourself some tickets for a studio tour or a show taping. Universal Studios well-known studio lot tour will give you an inside peek onto the sets of your favorite shows, and you might even be able to see one being created if you take a tour at Warner Brothers or Paramount Pictures.

Go Shopping

We can’t forget about everybody’s favorite way to unwind–some good old fashioned retail therapy. LA has world-class shopping destinations such as Rodeo Drive, The Beverly Center and Melrose Ave. What’s more fun than taking some time for a little retail therapy?

The Monaco Grand Prix 2022: Luxurious Tradition of Celebration

Experience The Monaco Grand Prix 2022

An extravagant French tradition, the Monaco Grand Prix 2022 highlights the best of the best Formula One drivers as they show off their talents in the French Riviera. Since its start in 1929, the race annually draws in thousands of visitors to Monaco to be a part of the festivities and culture that surrounds the prestigious event. From celebrities to socialites, guests gather to celebrate the start of summer and experience the excitement of motorsports by witnessing the 78 laps around the impressive Circuit de Monaco racetrack.

    The History

Winning the Monaco Grand Prix is considered one of the highest honors in motor races alongside the Indy 500 and 24 Hours Le Mans. With the three forming the Triple Crown of Motorsport, the race continues to be one of the most popular among Formula One enthusiasts. Normally a modest city of 30,000 citizens, Monaco’s population inflates to an average of 100,000 people as spectators travel from all over the world to cheer on their favorite drivers. The over 160-mile race is driven by dozens of talented Formula One drivers who head to Monaco each May to see if they have what it takes to win the hefty prize fund.

    The VIP Guests

With high society being an integral part of the race’s audience, the rich and famous are drawn to the event every year to wine, dine and throw parties in celebration of the world-renowned event. From movie stars to politicians, the well-known attendees can be spotted living it up alongside the rest of the lively spectators. Reminiscent of a Hollywood red carpet event, guests like Hugh Grant, Ron Howard, Bella Hadid, and Kris Jenner can be seen mixing and mingling throughout the weekend. Even Royalty like England’s Prince Harry and Monaco’s own Prince Albert have graced the grounds with their presence. Whether they’re avid racing fans or just coming to socialize and celebrate, the VIP guests help make the event ticket all the more attractive.

    The Exclusive Parties

Aside from the race itself, there are plenty of ways to spend time enjoying the French Riviera during a Grand Prix stay in Monaco. The infamous yacht parties thrown throughout the weekend are invite-only and often feature live music from A-list DJs, free-flowing Champagne, and plenty of caviar for your palate. Olympian Nicholas Frankl hosts an opulent annual yacht event where even the most well-known socialites and celebrities aren’t always able to snag an invite. With celebrities Kim Kardashian and Kanye West having been turned down in the past, Frankl’s exclusive 120-max guest list is limited to a hand-picked crowd of notable attendees. Last year’s Billionaire Club Champagne party held on the rooftop of the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo was also a sought after invite. With stunning views of the Mediterranean acting as a backdrop to the poolside event, guests got to take in the seascape while popping bottles ‘til dawn.

    The Nightlife

Aside from the parties, event attendees can also take advantage of Monaco’s nightlife venues that get filled to the brim with partygoers during the popular travel weekend. Amber Lounge at the Le Meridien Plaza Beach Hotel is known to be a hot spot during the Grand Prix. A prime after-party location, the venue sees non-stop celebration by key players in fashion, entertainment and even European royals. La Rascasse has enough of a reputation that a part of the Grand Prix track has been named after the iconic bar. You’ll get a view of the race by day and an enviable indoor-outdoor place to party by night. If you’re looking for a day party getaway, The Fairmont Monte Carlo plays host to Nikki Beach–a pop-up pool club that overlooks a challenging bend in the race track. Cabanas and sunbeds fill the space while DJs keep the party going well into the night.

The Monaco Grand Prix’s rich history and continuous draw of thousands of racing fans has made it one of the most important Formula One races in the world. The week’s worth of festivities leading up to the race will have attendees enjoying their travels and indulging in luxurious dining, transportation, and revelry.

The Bungalow Kitchen by Michael Mina Brings Social Dining to Tiburon

Experience The Bungalow Kitchen by Michael Mina Tiburon

One of Southern California’s favorite hospitality brands is heading North with the opening of The Bungalow Kitchen by Michael Mina in Tiburon, California. Similar to its recently opened Long Beach predecessor, this outpost will also be home to a thoughtfully crafted menu by award-winning Chef Michael Mina and concept by hospitality veteran Brent Bolthouse. Guests will dish on brunch, dinner, and cocktails in this community-driven space along the San Francisco Bay.

        The Concept

Each of Bungalow Hospitality Group’s locations has enjoyed success due to their affinity for creating inviting spaces fit for revelry. The Bungalow Kitchen by Michael Mina has added an additional layer of appeal in creating a menu of cuisine that complements the brand’s signature style of California living. The first Bungalow Kitchen by Michael Mina, located in the Belmont Shore neighborhood of Long Beach, aimed to take advantage of the city’s waterfront locale allowing guests to dine with a sparkling view. The Tiburon location will provide more of the same, this time overlooking San Francisco’s pristine Bay. Bolthouse and Mina hope to enhance the nightlife scene of the sleepy town, with help from the Tiburon Town Council’s decision to subsidize a ferry service that will run during late night hours for guests traveling from San Francisco.

        The Experience

With almost 12,000 square feet and a capacity of 300 people, the multi-level destination offers a range of spaces for guests to enjoy, including 5,000 square feet of spacious patios with waterfront views. Thanks to the vision of acclaimed designer Martin Brudnizki, the property’s interiors bring chic, bohemian elements to an experience built around social dining. The “community clubhouse” feel aims to unite guests in eating, drinking and being merry in a stylish atmosphere. The upstairs bar space, Salon, provides guests with a sleek and cozy habitat for lounge seating, weekend DJs, billiards, and a fireplace for warm conversation.

        Food & Beverage

The star of The Bungalow Kitchen by Michael Mina is its menu–elevated California cuisine made with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Chef Michael Mina and executive chef Joseph Offner will serve fresh seafood in both ice-cold and charcoal-grilled dishes, with shareable plates and late-night bites to satisfy guests’ cravings. Highlights from the menu include the tuna tartare, Garden Crudité Bowl, Dungeness Crab “Pop-Tart,” and the Lobster Pot Pie–Chef Mina’s signature dish made with truffle lobster bisque and root vegetables. Brunch selections will also excite the senses with dishes like Sweet Potato Pancakes and The Bungalow Wagyu Burger.

Handcrafted signature cocktails include The Bungalow Margarita, Espresso Martini, and the City Lights–made with chamomile-infused vodka, lemon, honey elderflower, agave and faba. A curated wine list of 150 bottles will have a selection dedicated to wines from Marin County, as well as a page to pair with Bolthouse’s favorite music.

                Experience Offsunset

West Hollywood has an intimate new nightlife venue that promises to be an exclusive space for Los Angeles elite. Situated on the famed Sunset Strip, Offsunset is slowly becoming a hot spot for A-list guests seeking a private place to party. This alluring, cell phone-free destination is already well on its way to becoming one of the most sought out invites in town.

                Photo: Offsunset West Hollywood

                The Location

Located in the former space of nightclub Hyde, Offsunset inhabits a location cemented in Los Angeles nightlife history. At its peak, Hyde was known for its exclusivity along with endless paparazzi flashes catching celebrities enter and exit the cozy lounge. With the space having been unoccupied for almost a decade, this new venue hopes to maintain an even more limited guest list to prioritize the privacy of their high profile clientele.

                Exclusvity

Nightlife in Los Angeles is often advertised through social media with photos circulated by venues and guests alike. Offsunset has embraced a different approach, with a strict ‘no cell phones’ policy similar to other West Hollywood venues like The Nice Guy and Delilah, who also enforce a ‘no photos’ rule. Co-founders and hospitality veterans Costas Charalambous, Shyon Keoppel, Gunner Safron and Stafford Schlitt aim to create a level of privacy unheard of in the modern Los Angeles nightlife scene.

Inside, the venue boasts a welcoming atmosphere of refinement with plush booth seating, dim lighting, and eclectic artwork throughout. The living room-style ambiance joins together elements of Old Hollywood with contemporary design aesthetics to mesh the old with the new. An unassuming DJ booth is home to rotating entertainment brought to guests by the owners’ musician friends, who are welcome to perform whenever they’d like.

                The Experience

Bottle service is a draw for groups, but the menu of specialty cocktails also adds to the imbibing experience. The Red & Velvet delivers something sweet with flavors of cherry and chocolate, while the Mai Tai Me Up is made with the venue’s signature rum blend. Elevated bar snacks range from Truffle Popcorn, to a Maine Lobster Roll, to a more indulgent Pomme Maxim with caviar.

So what does it take to get invited to this exclusive venue? The “Off” in Offsunset stands for “only friends and family,” with each night’s guest list composed of those with personal relationships to the owners. The highly-curated crowd includes actors, entrepreneurs, models, artists and the like to mix and mingle in the intimate space. Each of the ten booths are open without obstructed views of each other to encourage conversation between parties. Owners also may stop in to facilitate mingling, introducing guests to help forge connections within the talented crowd.

Offsunset’s star-studded opening included guests like Demi Lovato, Tom Holland and Kid Cudi, helping the venue enter the scene with a buzz and continue to host a renowned clientele. Only open on Thursday and Saturday nights, the sleek West Hollywood hideaway is sure to make a name for itself as one of the hottest lounges in Los Angeles.
