The boutique Hotel Bennett is home to many surprises, but the most eye-catching has to be the champagne bar, bathed in pink from head to toe. With such an incredible photo op surrounding the festivities, Camellias is the perfect place for a girl’s night out.

Little Palm

Charleston is a coastal city, and this poolside bar takes that fact in stride. The fruity cocktails and seasonal small-plates are served in a breezy open-air space, ideal for luxuriating in the golden sun. Don’t miss out on the “Green Light”, a delightful frozen drink with white wine, pear brandy, and honeydew melon.

Proof

For the discerning reveler, Proof might be one of the most inventive bars in Charleston. The dark wood walls are home to drinks like “The Battle of Trafalgar”, made with Pimm’s, St. Germain, Batavia Arrack, honey, and lime. Grab some friends and make your way down Proof’s long list of unique cocktails.

Edmunds Oast

With an utterly immense collection of beers from around the country, this contemporary casual restaurant is the de facto destination for beer lovers. The massive wall of beers on tap might seem intimidating, but the knowledgeable staff are more than prepared to find the perfect bubbly beverage for you. Grab a plate of the house-cured charcuterie, and dig into the offerings at Edmund’s Oast.

Babas on Cannon

Sequestered away from the hustle and bustle of King Street is a quaint little cafe with carefully pulled espresso and sandwiches in the mornings. But by night, Babas on Cannon becomes a boozy watering hole with an impressive wine list and delicious craft cocktails, all while maintaining its breezy European vibe. Definitely snag the gin & tonic, served with an adorable side of olives and potato chips.

Prohibition

A charming homage to the 1920’s speakeasy, Prohibition is the place for bespoke cocktails and live jazz. The drink menu is organized by spirit, with tons of tasty options once you pick your poison. Keep an eye on their website to see what hot musical acts are in store.

The Living Room

This new spot to tie one on operates out of the chic Dewberry Charleston, and as the name implies, is an incredibly inviting space for some evening excitement. The sumptuous digs offer contemporary twists on all your favorite classic cocktails, available to enjoy from a plush armchair or loveseat. Take your evening to the next level by stopping at the hotel’s rooftop bar, the Citrus Club.

The Alley

The Alley has proven itself to be one of the best bars in Charleston, or at least, one of the best bowling alleys. Ice cold beer, addictive cocktails and a host of activities make sure there’s never a dull moment. Check out the calendar on their website for info on the frequent theme parties and trivia nights.

Bangkok Lounge

Occupying the space of what was formerly the iconic Upper Deck Tavern, Bangkok Lounge holds onto that nostalgic atmosphere, combining it with an all new tropical drink menu, and what is sure to be the main attraction: Karaoke, 7 days a week. The drinks are cold, the mics are hot, and the crowd is always ready for a good time.

The Gin Joint

Cocktail enthusiasts will love this cozy little watering hole, which was one of the first cocktail bars in the area, and has been dedicated to the craft of bartending ever since. Vodka has been off the menu since 2010, so guests will have to peruse the extensive list of innovative drinks featuring obscure ingredients. Ask for the bartender’s choice for a surprise that will never disappoint.

Jade Bar

The sights from this spot will tell you everything you need to know about why they call it Paradise Valley. Jade has been around since before the recent boom of Scottsdale’s popularity, so you can be sure it’s gained merit by word of mouth instead of by pandering to trends of the moment. To maintain their down-to-earth roots, Jade is a walk-up bar only, but don’t let that fool you. A cold drink on their shaded patio is what desert dreams are made of.

Orange Sky

On the 15th floor of Talking Stick Resort, you won’t miss a minute of Scottsdale’s everchanging sunset. Orange Sky is technically most well-known for wine, winning the Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence in 2023, but their signature cocktail list is not to be missed either. The best part, though, is grabbing a table on the patio to watch the sky turn from blue, to (you guessed it) orange, to charcoal, and then filling with stars.

Hulas Modern Tiki

You’ll find some of the most fun cocktail drinks in Old Town Scottsdale at Hula’s Modern Tiki, and that’s saying a lot since this stretch of the city is best known for fun. Served in classic tiki cups with garnishes to match, you won’t find more photo-worthy cocktails than these. Host a work event or holiday party in the Tiki Room, or stop by at happy hour for a pre-dinner pick-me-up. They also have fun, fabulous mocktails!

Tell Your Friends

Newly opened in 2024, Tell Your Friends is a unique speakeasy inside the Americano. This spot is inspired by Gatsby in a way that doesn’t feel overdone. Make a reservation and hope that you make it in on a night a live band is playing. The signature cocktail list is filled with exciting flavors like raspberry red bell pepper or serrano pineapple.

Citizen Public House

Book a private room for an intimate group of up to 10 at Citizen Public House. Or, invite a larger group of up to 35 to the upstairs speakeasy, Benjamin’s Upstairs. This area is totally sealed away from the rest of the restaurant, making it perfect for wedding rehearsal dinners or large family gatherings. The cocktail menu is as impressive as you’d expect, but the food and wine list also stand out here. Plus, hosting a group event here is seamless and streamlined thanks to the efficient wait and bar staff.

Second Story

This is one of our favorites for bachelor parties, golf groups, or birthdays. Second Story is known for their unmatched whiskey menu, so much so that they offer a whiskey tasting led by a true expert in the field. The vibes are a perfect mix of traditional steakhouse and modern cocktail bar, and if you aren’t booking a private party, you should still stop by for happy hour or dinner. Second Story also has an extensive liquor, wine, and food menu, making this unique spot appealing to large groups.

AZ88

Locals might be familiar with AZ88, but they may not yet understand why it’s worth the hype. While the martinis and the atmosphere are stand-out, this is also the perfect spot for art lovers. We can’t get enough of the wood-fired pizza and innovative appetizers, from burrata to wagyu meatballs. One of our favorite parts about this Chicago-born spot is the variety offered here. We’ve put together our list of our 10 favorite traditional pubs in Dublin—some you might have heard of and some you’ll have to travel off the beaten path, but each offers unique Irish hospitality and a chance to soak up some history.

Toners

Join the likes of renown poet W.B. Yeats for a pint at Toner’s. This pub, originally an 1800’s grocery store, features original wooden booths and cozy old-school dividers at the bar. There’s also a lively outdoor patio where you might find live music or a lively crowd on match days. This spot consistently shows up on lists of top Dublin pubs, but luckily they accept reservations.

The Norseman

Established in 1696, the Norseman prides itself on being the oldest pub in the Temple Bar neighborhood—”even before it was Temple Bar as you know it,” they say. The Norseman has it all: a full tap, a rotating menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and even luxury accommodations above the pub. Enjoy live music here every night of the week, and then set off to explore the rest of Temple Bar!

ODonoghues

You’ll find O’Donoghue’s just a quick walk from St. Stephen’s Green and the Little Museum of Dublin. Since the 1930’s, this has been one of the main pubs in Dublin for traditional Irish music and Irish folk music. In fact, The Dubliners started out playing shows at O’Donoghue’s and they still return from time to time! You can also book a double or triple room at O’Donoghue’s, meaning you’re never far from the music.

The Long Hall

Aptly named, the red ceiling and ornate carpets of Dublin’s Long Hall can’t be missed. The Victorian atmosphere alone is worth checking out, especially because the decor has been untouched since 1881! This pub is known as a favorite for locals and tourists alike, and—rare in Dublin—bartenders come by to take your order at the table, if you’d like.

The Brazen Head

The list wouldn’t be complete without Dublin’s oldest and most widely-loved pub. Since 1198, names you know and love like James Joyce and Jonathan Swift have pulled up a stool at this pub in Dublin city. Indeed, this is a hotspot for tourism, but don’t get that confused with a tourist trap. Think of it more like a Dublin must-see—in a city known for fabulous pubs and pints, there’s got to be a reason this has been number one for…ever, just about.

Mother Reillys

Mother Reilly’s is located in the Rathmines neighborhood, on the outer edge of Dublin’s bustling center. This is the perfect spot for travelers who want to take a break from their busy sightseeing schedule and have a Guinness by the fireplace or a Bulmers on the heated garden patio. You can reserve a table at Mother Reilly’s but it’s not required. Either way, their robust lunch and dinner menu offers perfect fuel for whatever’s next on your itinerary.

Bowes

You’ll find Fleet Street on the outskirts of Temple Bar, and on Fleet Street, you’ll find a collection of lovely Dublin pubs. Bowe’s is one of our favorites because it is a true step back in time as well as a pleasant reprieve from the buzz of Temple Bar. They’ve been named a Best Irish Whiskey Bar in previous years and also have a wide array of food options all day. We’d recommend making the quick walk over after a tour of Trinity College’s immaculate campus.

Nearys

Pubs in Dublin aren’t the only special part of this city. While you’re in town, make sure to see a show at the Gaiety Theatre. Afterwards, have a pint at Neary’s! Powered by original gas lamps and cozy corner booths, this UNESCO City of Literature bar has been a mainstay for theatre lovers since the 1800’s. Neary’s prides themselves on being the perfect mixture of historical charm and modern appeal, not to mention being a favorite spot for local actors and theatre patrons alike.

The Oval Pub

This Dublin pub is as beautiful as it is rich in Irish history. The Oval is probably the most resilient pub in Dublin as it was badly damaged in the 1916 Rising, and then again in the Civil War of 1922. Even in the midst of national upheaval, The Oval has invited Dubliners to enjoy its checkerboard floors and grand staircase. If you’re stopping by from out of town, choose from three floors of seating inside or grab a table on the outdoor patio for a summertime pint, like patrons have been enjoying since The Oval was licensed in 1822!

McDaids

If you’re wondering why the ceilings are so high here, it’s because they stood up corpses in the walls back when it was the Dublin City Morgue. At least, that’s what all the great storytellers would say. The aesthetic of McDaid’s also stems from when it served as a chapel in the 1800’s. If that’s not enough intriguing history for you, Irish poet Brendan Behan was a regular here. It’s said that he based many of his fictional characters off of the real-life ones he met in these pub stools.
