With such a large selection of things to do for lovers of art or history, it can be hard to narrow down your options and decide on just one activity to do for the day. David Hockney: Something New in Painting and Photography and even Printing… Continued – L.A. Louver

David Hockney is returning to a Los Angeles art gallery, the L.A. Louver, for his 22nd exhibit in the space. The exhibit largely focuses on Hockney’s more recent works, including large scale photographs and multi-canvas paintings.




MONUMENTality – Getty Center

This in-depth historical exhibition by the Getty Center looks at the history of humans in relation to monuments that they have erected. This exhibit takes a look at not only how history’s greatest monuments were constructed, but also the myth, lore, and religious beliefs that surround them.




Ai Weiwei: Life Cycle – Marciano Art Foundation

Ai Weiwei is an internationally famed artist who is bringing four of his sculptures to the Marciano Art Foundation in 2019, Life Cycle being the only one that has never been shown before. The large-scale sculpture focus on the current global refugee and immigration crisis.

The Propeller Group – Luckman Fine Arts Complex

The Propeller Group is an art collective based out of Vietnam and are bringing some of their works to America for the first time. The works being brought to the Luckman Fine Arts Complex encompass a variety of media including film, photography, installation art, sculpture, and paintings.

The Casspir Project – The Rendon Gallery

Ralph Ziman is a South-African born Los Angeles-based artist that is bringing his genius art exhibit The Casspir Project to the Rendon Gallery, opening February 7th. The installation includes oral history, documentary, film, sculpture, and photography. It even includes a bead and neon paint covered 11-tonne military vehicle.

West of Modernism: California Graphic Design, 1975 to 1995 – LACMA

This collaboration between LACMA’s Decorative Arts and Design department and Prints and Drawings Department takes a deeper look at how graphic design in California was being transformed from 1975 to 1995 based on the political climate of the country, along with artistic movements that were hitting the state at the time.

Noa Yekutieli: Pedestal – Track 16 Gallery

Nao Yekutieli’s latest site-specific installation art piece titled Pedestal is completely made up of rocks, lumps of concrete, strings, and paper cutouts. The exhibit is a look into how we as a human race take narrative from the wreckage and rubble of historical events. The exhibit will be open to the public until March 2nd.

California Artists in the Marciano Collection – Marciano Art Foundation

This large-scale art show is an inclusive exhibition of 40 artworks by 30 California-based artists. The show is an aim to bring more attention and support to largely contemporary artists in all of California, but especially Los Angeles. At the end of the show, the Art Foundation will be awarding the first ever Marciano Artadia Prize to a Los Angeles based contemporary artist, with the prize including a payout of $25,000.
